Hello to everyone on this forum. Thank you Christian for designing and providing a wonderful product! I have spent the last month exploring the Zaquencer and it has been nothing but pure synth zen after a long day. I love it.
I have a question about MIDI. I am trying to trigger pattern changes through CC and I can’t figure out what the function of the global setting “Trigger CC NR” does.
Tell me if I’m wrong: “Trigger Enable” both turns triggering on AND selects the MIDI channel on which the messages will be sent. So if I select channel 1, and then send CC message 2 on that channel to the Zaquencer, Pattern 2 should load, right? If I want to change to pattern 3, I send CC message 3 on MIDI channel one, and the pattern should change.
So what do I select with “Trigger CC NR”? I want to be able to move between 127 possible patterns, so why select just one value?
I hope I’m able to make my question clear. I’m sure I am ignorant of some of the finer points of MIDI, as I am relatively new to this. I appreciate your expertise!
February 5, 2017 at 10:34 pm #5529Hello John,
“As of Version 1.5, the T RIGGER CC NR does not have a function assigned to it. The parameter will most likely be reused in a future version.”You are almost right with the function of “Trigger enable”. You chose a MIDI channel where you will send all the controls for Zaquencer. Beware that a MIDI channel is not the same as a MIDI CCNr.
Then you send MIDI Messages trough the channel you chose with “Trigger enable” to MIDI CCNr 0 or 1 to load patterns.
MIDI CC messages are only from 0 to 127, so you send a message to CCNr 0 to load Patterns 0-127, or CCNr 1 to load Patterns 128-191.
So if you select channel 1 and then send CC message 2 on that channel to CCNr 0 Pattern 2 should load, if you want to change to Pattern 3 send CC message 3 to CCNr 0.
Check the Manual for the Midi Remote Command List
I hope it is clear, my English is not the best.
February 7, 2017 at 7:44 am #5531Hi John,
thanks for sharing your question!
As Francisco correctly wrote, the Trigger CC Nr is not active at the moment.
It has been used in old versions before the extensive midi remote fnctionality, but is not in use anymore.
Also the rest that Francisco wrote is correct.Maybe what´s still missing here is the overview that a Midi CC message always consists of 3 bytes:
- Midi Channel (selected through “Trigger Enable” in Global menu, that´s correct)
- CC Number (this selects the type of message (e.g. Pattern Change 0-127 in the Zaquencer))
- CC Value (this selects the value of the message (e.g. pattern number to load))So when you say “send CC message 2″ (= value 2) you´re missing what “CC Number” you´re sending with the message.
Hope this makes it more clear!
Best,
