Midi channel & Synth Program

Hi All,

i’m testing the demo and its looks quite intersting so far.
I have one little prob regarding the midi channels and the assignment
to the corresponding sound e.g.

midi out ch 1 -> bass/prog 23
midi out ch 2 -> string/prog 54
midi out ch 3 -> perc/prog 43
midi out ch 4 -> drum/prog 44

To set the mdidi channels T1-T4 thats clear, but how to assign
to the channel in the synth, atm i have one synth connectd per midi.
I#ve read the manual but didn’t find a clue,
please apologize my blindness but a hint would be great.

I think the assignement you ask for would have to be done in the synth, no?
Which synths are you using with the Zaquencer? Do you have a link to the manual?

thanks for answering, allthough your answer
confuses me a bit.
From working with software sequencers e.g. ableton
i always assign the midi & program from the sequencer
side of town. Even with my old Q80 sequencer i did it like this.
Now I’m using a chroma polaris with the zaquencer
what looks like a perfect match at first glance.

the polaris manual says:” ..if the software in the sequencer or computer is able to allow seperate midi channels to be assigned to independent tracks, the polaris can be a multitimbre instrument…

if the external software can assign midi channels to tracks, it should also be able to assign programm numbers that can correspond to specific polaris programs. ..”

so, i doesnt know it other than this
to assign midi ch to prg, hm isn’t there
a way through the zaq doing this with the midi crtl knob?

yes you can set program changes via the MIDI control knobs.

Have you managed to create any response in the Polaris from the zaq?

Program changes are normally just that, changes. Sent once to change the program, not maintain it. Are you able to change the program from the Polaris instead?

I’be tried sending program changes from the zaq repeatedly and the attached synth didn’t like it very much.Like telling someone to turn left over and over. You mean it once, but the message is repeated, causing paralysis or pirouettes!

Ok I understand. It seems you want to select the sound also from the sequencer.
I can confirm what Tommy said. The Zaquencer is able to set the program with the Midi Control Alpha/Beta messages (to send Midi Program Change). This is being done repeatedly, when the step is being played, so it might not be optimal.

I would also recommend to set the program on the synth directly and use the sequencer to play notes etc.
They way I see it it should be possible to setup the Chroma to “Whatever you receive on Midi Channel 1, use it to play a bass sound, Channel 2 lead etc…”, and then have the Zaquencer send the 4 tracks on the different Midi Channels (can be set in the Global Menu).

it needs a time to crawl in the zaqiversum, first puzzling – then aha, but hey
this works so far without any irritations, thanks to tommy & christian,
the polaris gets these setup well done.
nevertheless, it would be a nice option for the zaq, as a master,
to control the assigment of midi <-> chanel/program inherent.

to dig deeper now any zaq xmas offers in prospective
