+1 for a CC layer!
December 5, 2015 at 2:06 pm #3612Yes please!
December 1, 2015 at 6:34 pm #3593Yeah, you have a point. The BCR is insane value for money. I just don’t see the competition though. What other hardware MIDI step sequencers are there at the 400 eu price point except the Arturia junk? The only other device I’m aware of is the american Social Entropy Engine which is not even for sale at the moment and would cost $665. You can get an Ableton Push 2 with this kind of money (and get so much much more), so I wish them luck.
I actually emailed Sequentix and asked them to consider making a Cirklon Lite at a lower price because not everyone needs 5 MIDI outs (!) and 64 tracks!
What about hacking the BCR hardware to add more Flash RAM? is that possible at all?

November 29, 2015 at 5:51 pm #3569Zaaaaaaaaq! Christian would have to be game as he wrote the code !
I have the time to get involved in helping set up a kickstarter or similar project if he and a few others are interested.
The only other comparable devices in the market seem to be:
-the Sequentix Cirklon which only has 16 knobs but a serious display and more of everything and costs a ridiculous amount of money!
-The Arturia Beatstep Pro which looks promising and is cheap but apparently extremely buggy. A qucik visit to the Arturia forums reveals a horror show! I was ready to buy this from my local shop as soon as I saw it but thankfully I decided to read some user reports first…
November 29, 2015 at 1:05 pm #3564Yes please. Let’s crowdfund this! I already mentioned this idea in another thread. Imagine a device with a metal case, a backlit button under each knob for quick note on/off and other fucntions, better knobs and a higher res OLED display like the one on the Korg Taktile keyboard:
It’s pretty small so it shouldn’t cost too much, and will be able to display parameters without cryptic abbreviations!
At the moment the screen is the worse thing about the BCR2000 for me.16 tracks, MIDI controller mode (that can be used while the sequencer is running), song mode (play x pattern a number of times, then jump to any other pattern, play a number of times, etc) more MIDI CCs per track etc etc!
November 29, 2015 at 3:25 am #3561It could just be fixed so that Pattern 1 sends PC 1/ note C3 and so on with only a switch to enable/disable the feature per track. It could just be fixed so that Pattern 1 sends PC 0 / note C0 and so on at a specified MIDI channel, with a way to enable/disable the feature.
FIXED
November 29, 2015 at 2:50 am #3556Yes, but this is about pattern switching on the fly with just one button when the Zaquencer is running in sync with other sequencers/ drum machines, so that all devices switch pattern at the same time. Also, if I just put a program change in a sequence the zaquencer itself will not automatically switch pattern at the same time. With this feature we’d be able to hit a pattern button and have other devices (which are playing their own patterns) switch pattern at the same time (next quantization step), for live improvisation.
I’m not sure why the Zaquencer uses CCs for trigerring patters externally. If it used PCs it would be possible to do this from one of the other devices running. Both my machines can transmit a PC when a new pattern is triggered / cued up….I believe it is fairly standard behaviour. They accept and trasnmit PC for pattern triggering on their global channel, so if you set them both to the same global channel and set them to play their sounds on other channels it is possible to trigger a pattern on both devices with one PC event.
November 28, 2015 at 11:31 am #3549Christian,
here’s a couple of links:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_musical_scales_and_modes
the Pelog and Flamenco scales would be nice
and here’s a link for some info on basic indian scales
My BCR is in the post and I can’t wait ! The more I read about the Zaquencer the more impressed I am… For example: I have a Sonic Potions LXR drum machine which doesn’t like incoming MIDI clock.. So i was thinking “I wonder if the Zaquencer has separate MIDI clock settings for the two MIDI outputs so I can send MIDI to the LXR from a separate port? I check the manual and boom , there it is!
I think I’ll be ordering another BCR quite soon!
