do you mean pattern? over midi cc? i use an mpc with jjosxl to trigger the patterns and the cc message is quantized. but i agree, it would be nice to keep the start relative to the original start command. i guess the idea is that with all possible pattern lengths, it makes for potentially messy problems calculating where the start should be… it only works well with patterns built from 16 steps.

it should work with any midi capable device as long as the device receives note and velocity and controller and pitch and clock data… oh and aftertouch if youre lucky
simplest would be to take a midi out from computer to in on zaquencer to provide midi clock. turn off mid thru on zaquencer, then midi out of zaquencer to midi in on computer. voila.

this isnt a bad idea if youre pressed for space. it may be asking too much from a kick ass midi sequencer that already has a long list of cool stuff people want. it would be nice tho ill admit.

motu has released drivers for most up to date OSes it looks like so this is still a great option for onscreen editing of connections with a current OS.
another thing to note is that you can use one USB version and daisy chain it to a serial version and still get the 16 ins and outs. the cable to connect them is relatively hard to find but just keep at it.
try a MOTU MTP AV usb (up to 16 ins and outs if you daisy chain 2 of them together)… the only thing is youll need XP or os9 to properly edit its connections onscreen. you can use the front panel controls but ive never done that. this is ancient gear by todays standards, and will take some figuring out.

unfortunately there is only enough goodness inside for 4 tracks. you need to buy another one brother! thats what i did… 2wice the goodness!
that is one of the challenges of being a midi artist: how to hook up your gear. if possible, get a midi patch bay with more inputs and outputs, then there is no question about hookup, only how to use your patchbay. if i knew what i know now when i started a long time ago i would have done it that way.

hmm as i understand it, the ratcheting feature would be like a note repeat? a flam precedes the main drum hit. would present a challenge maybe? only zaqman knows…
