Too bad it didn’t work perfectly, would have been nice!
Maybe you could cut 5mm pieces from the old shafts and insert them first inside the knob caps, then put on the caps?October 9, 2015 at 8:44 am #3170Hi Flavio,
those should be correct size. Length from mounting surface looks 30mm, which I believe is the correct measurement.
October 8, 2015 at 8:25 am #3165Hi Christian, great! I look forward to your report. That RS-online store looks good choice too.
I have some other repairs first in line, but it looks like BCR2000 will get a much appreaciated upgrade soon.I think then I will have to stop being a cheapskate with my homemade overlay and order a proper one from you for Zaquencer hehe.
October 7, 2015 at 8:09 pm #3160That part number (EC12E24144) gets only bad google results, maybe it is some very old Alps part or there is a error in it. 5 euros also seems like a very high price.
I looked into a this a bit more (see my post in the other “knob thread”). I guess if we want straight out working encoders (no modifications in firmware or the encoders) it will mean: 24 pulses per rotation, no detents.
Without a switch that is easy, but with a switch it is hard, all of Alps encoders of these features seem to come with detents only.
However from Bourns I think there is more hope:
See for example series PEC12R
http://www.bourns.com/data/global/pdfs/PEC12R.pdfNow if we review for example this part number PEC12R-4025F-S0024 it is:
-correct mount
-no detents
-25mm (I seem to remember reading someone succesfully used 25mm as a length)
-with a switch
-24 pulses per revolutionIt is available and in stock at Digikey
http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?KeyWords=PEC12R-4025F-S0024&WT.z_header=search_goThere are other Bourns series (for example pec11, pec11r look like high quality metal encoders) where encoders with these features might be available, but please do check everything yourself before ordering, including this example. I don’t want to suggest something that will not work and someone spends money for nothing!

October 6, 2015 at 5:16 pm #3146Hi!
My top row encoders are also dying, and I will want to replace them.
I think encoder with detents would be enjoyable to use, but as Egor has reported this leads to problems.I don’t know much about encoders but I think the problem could be this:
the detents in the 24 pulse/24 detent encoder will “sit” in a position that makes an increment of one detent send out a “whole” pulse, but BCR2000/Zaquencer processes both edges of the pulse for 2 changes for the price of one ;).
___
detent 1 ___| |___ detent 2I don’t know the logic how Zaquencer processes the pulses received, but I guess an “alternative” firmware wouldn’t be much work, if it only means replacing this behaviour? But it would mean all 32 encoders should be with detents then?
Also, if the above is correct then if there is a 24 detent/12 pulse encoder it should work right away?
Lots of question marks, sorry! Main problem seems to me that undetented encoders with a included switch are obscure, only found ones with detents.
August 6, 2015 at 8:40 am #2952Very nice update, Thank you! I’m not coding literate, but I hope Zaq / someone else can come up with a librarian for Zaquencer. I checked the manual for the new Beatstep Pro from Arturia and they have good ideas with their software, naming the sequences and arranging them etc. Would be great if Zaquencer had a librarian with good sequence management where you could arrange sets from your sequence data!
